NOALE (VENICE), 2001 A fantastic new violin by the contemporary Venetian luthier, Giovanni Gozzo. His handwritten label reads in Italian "Soloist's violin, Noale, Venice, Giovanni Gozzo, September (2001). Noale is a small town neighboring Venice in the Veneto area of Italy.
Venice was a violin making capital in the 18th Century. Montagnana, Sanctus Serafin, Gofriller and Busan were among the luthiers living there. Through its over 11 century history, Venice was a renegade province politically, religiously and artistically. The tradition if Venetian individualism is being carried on with a small group of makers plying the art once again. Among them is Giovanni Gozzo.
The two-piece back is nicely flamed, the ribs of moderate flame. The scroll, F holes and arching are gracefully and artistically carved. It is covered in a beautiful, deep, radiant oil varnish of a Venetian red color over golden ground, subtley antiqued. Altogether, a very attractive instrument for the professional.
In mint condition, this violin has a fantastic, ringing clear and robust tone over its entire range, giving no hint of its youth. The sound is already fully mature with considerable character. The G string is awesome, the highs are brilliant. This is a violin that can only appreciate in value as it acquires age and playing time.
Violins available from maker can be ordered on commission in the finish of your choice, either antiqued or plain. Handwritten certificate by maker provided. QUESTIONS? Giancarlo Gozzo
