STRADIVARI MODEL An unique opportunity to acquire a renowned Nagyvary directly from his collection without waiting for it to be built! Nagyvary violins bought directly from his laboratory sell at $14,000 - $16,000!

We have had the good fortune to have acquired this fine violin - the eleventh made by the team of Nagyvary and Chen in 2004.

Dr. Nagyvary is one of the most prominent researchers into the chemistry and science of violin construction. He approaches the mysteries of the violin sound both as a scientist and artist. His ideas - though not uncontroversial - are the culmination of years of research and hands-on experimentation. For instance, he has used deductive reasoning to conclude that mineralization in the wood used by the Cremonese luthiers enhances its resonant qualities. This mineralization is the fortunate consequence of the luthiers' wood supply having been bundled and rafted down northern Italian rivers such as the Po which runs through Cremona.

This violin from the year 2004 - made in close collaboration by craftsman Chen Guang-Yue and Dr. Nagyvary - is based on a Strad pattern. It's carved from resonant, straight-grained spruce for the top and moderately flamed maple stock for the ribs, back and scroll. The Nagyvary varnish, here tinted in a marvelous golden amber shade, is composed of a formula Dr. Nagyvary developed through his brilliant research into the methods, habits and accidents of good fortune these luthiers were witness to over 250 years ago. The result is a varnish which many say is the equal tonally to that the 18th century luthiers applied to their masterpieces. The Nagyvary varnish formula imparts to these modern violins the coveted acoustic qualities of their forbears.

Tonally, this violin bears out the kudos. It has a very Italianate quality...bright, spontaneous, balanced and evenly responsive over all strings. From open G up into the highest registers, this violin has a brilliance and laser-like focus which can soar over a full orchestra. QUESTIONS?
