SCARAMPELLA SCHOOL, SANTA VITTORIA (MANTUA) A splendid near mint condition Modern Italian violin of the Scarampella School labeled Amedeo Simonazzi and quite likely by Simonazzi. His violins command in the high five to low six figures on today's market for 20th century Italian instruments. This violin shows definite influence of Scarampella, especially in the rustic quality of its execution and the rich, liquid, lustrous, deep red varnish. It was made shortly after Simonazzi returned to violin making after a hiatus. The top is carved from gorgeous, straight-grained spruce. The two-piece back of narrow curl maple, descending slightly towards the flanks. Matching ribs, neck and scroll. Full arching, marvelous character and fiery spirit characterize this instrument.
